Minors
Minors are available in many of the above majors as well as creative writing, gerontology, Italian, jazz studies, international business, public history, and rhetoric and writing.
Student-Designed Majors
Students may develop individualized majors to accommodate special needs and interests. These majors may focus on an area of study not covered in regular departmental offerings or may be interdisciplinary in nature. Student-designed majors are open to undergraduate degree candidates who have earned at least 40 credit hours and who have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.50. Proposals from students with more than 75 credit hours are normally not accepted. A completed proposal must be submitted to the Committee on Student-Designed Majors no later than October 1 or March 1 for action that same semester. Further information about this program and application materials may be obtained from the offices of the academic deans.

Nearly half of our undergrads are in professional programs like education, nursing, and social work. The other half are in liberal arts and business programs. The college is organized into five schools.
Certificate of Undergraduate Studies (CUS)
CUS programs are primarily for undergraduate-level students, where the certificate components consist mostly of Rhode Island College undergraduate-level courses. Admission and retention requirements are significant. These certificates typically provide applied academic and/or professional training.
Certificate of Continuing Studies (CCS) Programs
Certificate of Continuing Studies (CCS) programs are also available for non-degree students, where the certificate components consist primarily of courses and/or workshops earning credits not associated with undergraduate or graduate programs at Rhode Island College, such as continuing education units (CEUs), college Outreach Program credit, etc. Admission and retention requirements for most CCS programs are minimal. These certificates typically provide professional development, vocational training, or personal enrichment.
