The college catalog contains degree requirements for all undergraduate and graduate programs of study, rules that affect students, descriptions of courses, and a list of the faculty and administration of the college. You must know the rules given in the catalog for your degree program. The catalog is the document of authority for all students.

Registration

Dates and Times

All students register via the Web and at assigned dates and times. Students may register at the beginning of their scheduled appointment time. Web registration is accessed through your MyRIC user ID and password. Your registration time is in your MyRIC account.

Students with disabilities who need assistance with accessing web registration should contact the Disability Services Center at (401) 456-2776 (TTY via RI Relay 711).

The registration system is available from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily. Be sure to avoid course meeting time conflicts. You may not register for more than one section of a course.

How to Register

Rhode Island College students with existing MyRIC accounts:

To access your MyRIC account: Go to MyRIC, then enter your user ID and password (all lower case).

Click on Self Service, and select Enrollment menu option to register for classes.

Call/Class Numbers: The five-digit number preceding each course is the number needed to add or drop the course. In Class Search, clicking the call number will provide the course description. Each course section has a unique code. Some courses require departmental consent to enroll. These courses are identified in Class Search on the Class Details page by the phrase "Department Consent Required". Restrictions, such as minimum grade point average, earned credits, major, or permission of department chair may apply. Contact the offering department for registration information.

Add/Drop Dates

Summer Session I: Classes begin May 17, 2021 and the Add/Drop period extends through May 21. Last day to withdraw from courses without permission is June 4.

Summer Session II: Classes begin June 28, 2021 and the Add/Drop period extends through July 2. Last day to withdraw from courses without permission is July 16.

Please Note: If you register for a course and do not withdraw from the course before the end of the Add/Drop Period, you will be financially responsible for the course. You must pay even if you do not attend.

Undergraduate Course Load
The maximum course load during the summer is 8 credit hours per summer session. Any exception to the maximum course load policy must be approved in writing by the appropriate academic dean.

Graduate Course Load
The maximum load is 8 credit hours per summer session. Students holding appointments as graduate assistants or graduate research assistants are considered full-time students, but must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credits each semester or 6 credits in any one summer session.

Tuition/Fees Summer 2021

You will be assessed tuition and fees based on your student category and residence. If your permanent residence for over one year has been Rhode Island, you may apply for in-state status at the Records Office in Building 4. In addition, to be considered independent of your parents, you must not have been claimed as a dependent for tax purposes for two years and you must have resided in Rhode Island for at least one year. It is your responsibility to inform the College of your status so that you are correctly charged.

All nondegree (not yet admitted to a degree program) students, undergraduate and graduate, are assessed tuition charges based on the course level. Undergraduate courses are billed at the undergraduate rate and graduate courses are billed at the graduate rate.

Rhode Island College is a state-supported institution; therefore, tuition and fees are subject to change at any time by the action of the Board of Education.

Billing and Payment

Payment Information

You may make payment by cash, check or electronic check, or by credit card using American Express, MasterCard, Visa or Discover. Credit card payments are only accepted on line and will have a convenience fee of 2.75% added to each card transaction. There is no fee for electronic check processing. For degree students, financial aid that has been offered and that you have accepted may also be applied to your bill. You will be required to pay any difference that is due.

If you register for summer courses after April 18, you are expected to make payment prior to classes beginning for the session. It is your responsibility to make certain that your registration accurately reflects your enrollment intentions for the semester. Since bills are based upon enrolled credits, you should drop unwanted courses as soon as possible. College Tuition Payment Plan

The college offers a monthly payment plan. The plan spreads your payment over four installments during the semester. The enrollment fee is $35 per semester. This fee is nonrefundable.

You may enroll in the payment plan on-line via MyRIC>Campus Finances> Make a payment>Enroll in the payment plan. Payment is required at this time. The first payment is due May 10, 2019. The payment plan is 1/4 of the balance due. A $35.00 fee will be assessed to enroll in the payment plan. You will be billed three more installments during the semester which will be May 24, June 7 and June 21, 2019. If you enroll ​after May 10, 2019 you may select the "three payment plan." The final three installment dates would apply each semester.

E-Billing

E-Billing (electronic billing) is now the official billing method at Rhode Island College. It is reliable, convenient and provides faster and easier service for students and parents – and is more green than paper billing.

Students will be sent an email when an E-Bill is available for viewing. This email is sent only to the student's official RIC email address. Students may also give access to parents to view their E-Bills and/or make e-payments by setting them up as authorized users. Instructions are below and available on the Bursar web​site. All enrolled students will receive an E-Bill. If you want a paper copy of your bill, you can log into the MyRIC account to print a copy.

Ways to Pay Your Bill

1. Electronic payment

Through the electronic payment option, you can pay by credit card, e-check or by using the RIC Funds card.

Credit card payments will have a convenience fee of 2.75% added to each card transaction (assessed by CashNet​, not Rhode Island College). There is no fee for electronic check processing or payment using the RIC Funds card.

• For Students: Log into MyRIC and select the link under Campus Finances to make a payment and follow the instructions.
• To set up your parents as authorized users:
• Log into your MyRIC account.
• Click on Campus Finances > Make a payment > add NEW Parent (bottom left next to Parent Pins)
• Assign your parent a username and password as directed
• Authorized users who provide an email address will also be sent E-Bill notifications
• For Parents: You will need to have the student authorize you to make the online payment (see process above). Once authorized, you will be sent a link via email from CashNet (Higher One) to complete the transaction.
2. Mail a check and include a copy of your bill to:

Late Fee
A $50 late fee will be assessed to all past due balances.

Tuition Waivers

Certain RI residents may be eligible for fee waivers including those receiving unemployment benefits, senior citizens (at least 60 years old), and disabled veterans, Members of the RI National Guard may apply for a waiver through the STEP program by contacting their TING commander. Waiver students may not register for classes until the last day before classes begin. Complete information on tuition waivers, eligibility guidelines, and waiver forms is available here.

Courses Not Eligible for Waiver Consideration
Courses in which instructional costs are directly affected by the number of students enrolled are not eligible for tuition waiver. For example, student teaching, applied music, independent study, some continuing education courses, and some courses with clinical requirements and internships.

Refund Policy for Summer Sessions

Enrolled Students: Students have a one-week Add/Drop Period in which to adjust their schedules each summer session. A 100% refund of tuition and fees is granted for courses dropped during this period. Drops after this period will not be eligible for a refund of tuition or fees.

Withdrawn Students: Students who officially withdraw from all classes for a summer session shall be entitled to a refund of tuition based upon their official date of withdrawal, computed as follows:

Fees are nonrefundable after the first week of class.

SUMMER FINANCIAL AID

Financial aid for Summer Sessions is available from three federal programs: Pell Grants (undergraduates only), Direct Loans and Work-Study. These programs are restricted to students accepted to degree programs and eligible certificate programs. Non-degree students are not eligible for financial aid. Visiting students matriculated at other institutions should check with the financial aid office at their home school regarding the possibility of receiving financial aid under a consortium agreement. ​The Records Office is open until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Wednesday the first week of each summer session (Building #4, East Campus). For evening advising appointments, call the Office of Academic Support & Information Services (OASIS, Adams Library LL) at 456-8083.

The Records Office is responsible for the registration process, recording student academic progress, scheduling courses, scheduling the use of facilities, preparing degree evaluations and certifying graduation, providing transcript services, and certifying student attendance at agencies outside of the College.​

By assisting students, faculty, and staff in the appropriate use of technology, USS provides a primary point of contact for end-user support, and offers a wide range of services including help desk, audiovisual distribution, management of computer labs and electronic classrooms, and technology training. User Support Services also is responsible for distributing and maintaining desktop hardware, software, and multimedia resources.

Office of Professional Studies and Continuing Education: Roberts Hall, 456-8091
The Office of Professional Studies and Continuing Education (PSCE) provides administrative support for Summer Sessions. In addition, PSCE offers continuing education programs that serve nondegree adult students, life-long learners, and working professionals seeking retraining or professional development.

RIC Bookstore (Bookstore): Student Union, 456-8025
Located in the Student Union, the RIC Bookstore sells required textbooks and much more. Do not write in your textbooks unless you know you are going to keep them. The RIC Bookstore will grant refunds on books with a dated sales receipt if the books are returned in the same condition that they were purchased (new and used texts) during the first two weeks of the semester. Our standard return policy is three business days with a dated sales receipt. Click here to review course materials for the upcoming semester.

Student ID card: Student ID office, Student Union, 456-8394
The student ID is more than your official Rhode Island College photo identification card. It is a great way to pay for everything including food, beverages, photocopies, laundry, printing, and textbooks at the Bookstore. You can add value to your campus points account at the Student ID office with a credit card. You can also add value using cash at either of the two Value Port stations; located at Adams Library behind the reference desk and at the lower entrance of Browne Hall. Your student ID accounts can be managed using GET Funds. Point your browser to https://get.cbord.com/ric​ and register your account. Additionally, your ID card has some important non-debit uses as well. It serves as your meal card when you sign up for a meal plan, your door key for entrance to your residence halls, your Adams Library card, and your ID for entrance into the Recreation Center.
The ID card consists of 3 accounts:

1. The meal plan account for Donovan Dining Center, the Café, and the Galley (Board, Guest Passes, and Bonus Dollars).
2. The Campus Points account for use at all locations where points are accepted (DDC, café, Galley, RIC Bookstore, Convenience Store, Student Union game room, many copiers, laundry facilities in the Residence Halls, and pay-for-print stations in the café and Adams Library).
3. DDC commuter points (DDC points). This account is useful if you would like to designate funds for food only.

Your first ID card is free and can be obtained by coming to the Student ID office located on the second floor of the Student Union. Call (401) 456-8394, email studentid@ric.edu, or visit http://www.ric.edu/studentid/ for more information.

If your ID card is missing, please notify Student ID (456-8394), Donovan Dining (456-8207), or Residential Life (456-8240) immediately to prevent unauthorized use. The college is not responsible for unauthorized use of an ID card prior to it being reported missing. Replacements are issued for a $10.00 fee.

College Library: Adams Library, 456-8126
The James P. Adams Library is a wonderful place to relax, study, and perform research. It has comfortable seating with vending machines and desktop and laptop computers and iPads for you to use.

Your RIC ID Card is your library card. You can use it to check out library materials in person. To access library databases from off campus, please log in with your RIC User ID and RIC Password. For questions, please contact the Circulation Desk in Adams Library (401.456.8126).

Undergraduate Admissions: East Campus, Forman Center, 456-8234
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is located in the Forman Center on the East Campus. Admissions officers are ready to assist any student who wants to earn a bachelor’s degree at the College.

Graduate Admissions, 456-9723
Persons who hold a bachelor's degree and wish to take graduate-level courses may do so through admission to a graduate program or by registering for classes as a non-degree (not yet admitted into a graduate program) student. Non-degree students who plan to seek a graduate degree should apply for admission before completing three courses or nine credits of graduate work as no more than nine credits may be carried into a graduate degree program. Office of Academic Support and Information Services (OASIS): Adams Library LL, 456-8083
The Office of Academic Support and Information Services (OASIS) is responsible for academic support services for students including academic advising; academic development including services for ESL students and students with learning disabilities; tutorial services in specific subjects, The Mathematics Learning Center and the Writing Center which provides peer tutors. Academic advisement is crucial to a student’s success at Rhode Island College. Students who have been formally admitted to the College are assigned a faculty advisor in their major or concentration. Department chairs are also available to provide academic advisement.

The Office of Student Life provides information and assistance to students regarding the typical kinds of non-academic issues students experience such as problems with tuition charges and bills, absences due to illnesses or family matters, adding or dropping courses, disagreement with other students or college personnel, health and safety concerns, etc. The Office of Student Life also publishes the Student Handbook which provides specific policies and procedures related to behavioral misconduct. Rhode Island College is committed to providing accommodations for students with disabilities. The principal aim of the Counseling Center is to help students grow, develop, and succeed during their college years. A professional staff of psychologists and counselors provide individual counseling and an array of group programs for students. For further information, call 456-8094.

Food Service: Donovan Dining Center, 456-8207
Food service will be available for all members of the college community, throughout the summer in the Donovan Dining Center. Hours of operation will be 6:30am-6:00pm Monday through Thursday and from 6:30am until 3:00pm on Fridays. Please feel free to stop by for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, or a quick snack. Intercollegiate Athletics/Student Athletes: Murray Center, 456-8007
Student-athletes at RIC and other institutions can get a leg up on academics by taking a summer course. You should consult the NCAA compliance officer at your college or university to see how a summer class might benefit you. The summer months keep the athletic staff and coaches very busy with fundraising initiatives, including camps, schools and clinics. Recreation Center: East Campus, 456-8007
The College’s Recreation Center is open throughout the summer and includes a L-shaped swimming pool for student refreshment and enjoyment. If you are taking a summer course, you are automatically a summer member of the Recreation Center. If you were a full-time returning student from the Spring semester, you also have membership privileges for the summer. The Recreation Center is located on the east side of the campus. Student Housing: Penfield Hall, 456-8240
Students enrolled in academic courses for Summer Sessions may stay in the residence halls. The rate is $900 (no linens) per session or $1800 for both sessions. Housing is available during Summer Sessions only with advanced application, and a $100 deposit is required at the time of application. Certain restrictions apply. General Education
The General Education Program provides a foundation for deeper study in a wide range of academic disciplines. Through the General Education Program, students develop the skills and habits of mind necessary for full participation in an increasingly complex world. The structure comprises both foundational courses and upper-division courses that afford students the opportunity to further develop in their majors skills acquired in foundational courses and also to make connections across disciplinary boundaries. Students will develop the capacity to learn in their undergraduate courses and for the rest of their lives; we believe that goal requires introducing them to many different kinds of knowledge and offering many occasions for relating the knowledge they acquire. One key goal is to engage students fully in their own educations; we therefore offer as much choice and flexibility as possible in course selection and, crucially, a first year seminar meant to excite student interest in college-level learning and to introduce the habits of inquiry essential to the academic enterprise. The program also includes an integrated course that emphasizes comparative perspectives on particular topics or ideas.
