The Unity Center

COVID-19 Response

The Unity Center wants to stay connected to our students during this time, and we know how important it is to have virtual spaces to connect with your peers, ask questions, and just have human connection.

Mission

The Unity Center is a department of the division of Student Success and works with all aspects of Rhode Island College campus to ensure equitable practices, an inclusive culture, and an affirming environment. The Center looks to engage students in meaningful and critical dialogue and practice about their academic, social, and emotional experiences, while challenging systems of oppression such as racism, sexism, classism, heterosexism, dis/ableism, and colonialism. The Center oversees resources and services on campus relating to identity and social justice, including a LGBTQ+ and Gender Office, an Intercultural Office for Students of Color, an Office for International, Immigrant, Undocumented, and Refugee Students, and Interfaith Services. In addition to intersectional programming, each individual office is responsible for providing support services, and resources for marginalized and disenfranchised frontline communities on campus.

The Unity Center houses a communal lounge furnished with couches and large bean bag chairs, a full functioning computer lab open extended hours with free printing, a Learning for Life satellite food pantry, a lending library, a community refrigerator for commuter students, and a private mediation/prayer room that also serves as a lactation space.
