COVID-19 Update

December 10, 2020

Dear RIC Faculty and Staff,

The college has been informed that five residential students in Penfield Hall have tested positive for COVID-19. Two additional residential students are also symptomatic and awaiting results. All of these students are now in isolation in Browne Hall and are receiving appropriate supportive services. We are working closely with the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) on this matter and eight other students have been asked to quarantine.

Out of an abundance of caution, and in accordance with RIDOH guidance, we are directing all asymptomatic Penfield Hall residents (approximately 128) to get tested at our on-campus site tomorrow. In addition, we are also offering asymptomatic testing, at no cost, to all residential students next week prior to their departure for the winter break.

We are asking our residential students to self-monitor and reiterating the importance of the three “W’s”: wear a mask, wash hands frequently and watch physical distance with others.

The college continues to monitor the impact of COVID-19 on campus and is following the recommended guidance put forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Thank you for your ongoing support to help us maintain a healthy campus environment.

Together we are #AnchorStrong!

Yours in education,

Frank D. Sánchez
President
