IMPORTANT Coronavirus (COVID-19) Updates

En español

April 2, 2020

Dear Campus Community,

This afternoon the college was informed that that one of our employees tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19). The employee, who last worked on campus Thursday, March 26, 2020 attempted to report to their work station on Monday, March 30. However, before accessing their workstation, the employee was immediately sent home after not passing the college’s visual-verbal health screening protocol. Later that day and out of an abundance of caution, the employee’s work station was sanitized by our housekeeping staff.

According to their protocol, the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) has initiated contact tracing and will reach out to those who may have been in close contact with the employee.

We have notified our front-line workers in Facilities and Public Safety of this positive case. We will closely monitor this situation and will continue to work with RIDOH regarding next steps.

As the college’s response to COVID-19 continues to evolve, I would like to share with you the following additional updates at this time:

Access to Campus Buildings

Given the implementation of stringent social-distancing protocols and the college’s transition to remote learning, teaching and working, the number of people accessing campus buildings has significantly decreased. Accordingly, effective Monday, April 6, campus buildings will no longer be unlocked in the morning by Campus Police. Physical keys and key card access will still function during this time, ensuring that faculty and staff continue to have access to their respective areas.

Should you not be able to enter a building you already have access to, contact Campus Police at 401-456-8888. If your access card/ID card does not work for an area you have access to, contact Jeff Martin at jmartin1@ric.edu to review your security access profile.

Campus Events

All previously-scheduled on-campus events, whether sponsored by campus or external groups and regardless of size, will be canceled or postponed at least through Saturday, May 16. We will continue to closely monitor this course of action as the situation evolves. If you have questions about campus events, contact the Office of Campus Events and Conference Services at 401-456-8900 or events@ric.edu.

Computer Labs:

Effective Tuesday, March 31, all computer labs have been closed. However, you may visit the technology support page of the RICremote website for information about accessing free Wi-Fi or mobile hotspots from local and national providers to support your remote learning and teaching needs.

If your course requires access to academic software, please email helpdesk@ric.edu to request remote access to our computer laboratory systems.

Help Center:

Effective Wednesday, April 1, the ITS Help Center is closed, but services will continue. If you have hardware or technology related issues that require in-person service, please email helpdesk@ric.edu to schedule an appointment. The Help Center will continue to be available from 7:30 a.m. - 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Fridays. The Help Center is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Stay Informed. Stay Connected.

As the virus and the response continues to evolve, make sure to check our website or send us an email if you have any questions: stayinformed@ric.edu.

Thank you!

As always, I want to thank you for everything that you are doing to support the college and each other during this difficult time. Please take good care of yourself and your families.

Yours in education,

Frank D. Sánchez
President
