Dr. Ryan Porell has been a member of the RIC Counseling Center team for five years and genuinely enjoys supporting young adults as they work through obstacles related to mood, anxiety, sexuality, and relationship issues. He also loves working with couples and facilitating groups. He grew up in New Hampshire and lived in Boston and Portland, Maine before completing his graduate work in Hawaii. He believes in the importance of finding satisfaction in our relationships and considers positive, satisfying connections with others to be a required, fundamental element to one’s overall mental health.

Ryan prefers to work collaboratively with students to figure out their interpersonal style(s) or ways in which they tend to interact with others and how that style may be shaping their relationships with people they care most about. Through therapy, students are able to gain the experience of a trusting, honest relationship through which personal solutions that make sense for the individual can be discovered. Outside the counseling center, Ryan enjoys spending time with his family and friends enjoying live music, talking about the unknowable, and camping.
