Volunteer Opportunities

Board of Directors

Overview: The Alumni Association Board of Directors consists of a president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, the immediate past president, and 12 directors, including a maximum of two-at large directors and the executive director of alumni and college relations. The duties of the board are to periodically review the association’s mission and purpose, ensure effective organizational planning, ensure adequate resources, determine and monitor the association’s programs and services, support alumni programs and evaluate the board's performance.

Meetings: The board meets a minimum of six times/year. Board members are strongly encouraged to attend all meetings.

Standing Committees

Alumni Donor Outreach Committee

Overview: This committee works to engage, steward, and cultivate current and potential donors to the RIC Alumni Association Annual Fund. Committee duties include planning donor appreciation and fundraising events, reaching out by phone, email or in person to current and prospective donors, and assisting the office with fund development strategies.

Meetings: This committee meets on as-needed basis.

Book Award Committee

Overview: The Rhode Island College Book Award, presented to local and regional high school students, is sponsored by a RIC alumna/us. Recipients are awarded books on behalf of the Rhode Island College Alumni Association. This committee promotes the book awards program to area and regional high schools.

Meetings: This committee meets twice each year and other times as needed.

Communication Committee

Overview: The communication committee works to ensure that all Rhode Island College graduates receive consistent and effective communications. Committee duties include assisting with publication of the alumni magazine and assisting with the Alumni Association social media strategy.

Meetings: This committee meets up to three times per year.

Alumni Golf Committee

Overview: The annual golf tournament, a fundraiser scholarship, takes place in September at a local golf course and includes lunch, dinner and an awards ceremony. This committee is responsible for fundraising, planning, and executing the tournament.

Meetings: This committee meets at the discretion of the chairpersons - usually at least three to four times per year.

Alumni Scholarship Committee

Overview: The scholarship committee works to ensure that approximately $100,000 in scholarship monies are awarded each year. Members of this committee assist with program development and the selection of student recipients.

Meetings: This committee meets approximately four times per year; mostly in the spring to review scholarship applications.

RICochet Emergency Fund Committee

Overview: This RICochet emergency fund provides grants to cover such emergencies as educational expenses, health, housing or childcare (maximum of $1,000 for any grant.) Members of this committee assist with program development and the selection of student recipients.

Meetings: Committee meets twice per year and other times as needed; most communication takes place via email.

Ad-hoc Committees

Homecoming Committee

Overview: Homecoming is a week-long event that provides an excellent opportunity to connect alumni to students and to each other. Members of this committee assist with program development and promote attendance.

Meetings: This committee meets bi-monthly; more frequent meetings are held from August through October.

Alumni Engagement and Event Committee

Overview: This committee ensures that varied and effective programs, activities, and events are developed to strengthen the Rhode Island College alumni affiliation, and to meet the needs of Rhode Island College.

Meetings: This committee meets every other month or on an as needed basis around a particular event.
