Melissa Leahey
Background
Melissa Leahey currently works for the Rhode Island District Court in the Pretrial Services Unit, responsible for bail supervision for offenders. This includes monitoring of all bail conditions imposed by the court, to include No Contact Orders, substance abuse and mental health treatment, anger management and others.
Prior to her work for the District Court, Melissa was the Manager of Advocacy Services at the Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center for ten years. In that capacity, she oversaw all legal advocacy services provided to victims by Law Enforcement Advocates in police departments as well as court advocates. She has also been a member of the Violence Against Women Act Law Enforcement Training Committee since 2001. In that capacity, she has developed curricula and participated in training for law enforcement at the various police academies in Rhode Island and in numerous in-service trainings at municipal and state police agencies.
Melissa has been an adjunct faculty member at Rhode Island College in the Sociology and Justice Studies Departments since September 2007. She teaches Sociology 207 and Justice Studies Topics 350: Domestic Violence and the Criminal Justice System.
