Academic Background

Thomas W. Ramsbey is Professor Emeritus of Sociology at Rhode Island College, where he taught for thirty-two years. He served seven of those years as chair of the department. His research, published in journals, ranged from the Sons of Liberty to the social support structures of winners of the Nobel Prize in Literature. Most were collaborative efforts with other faculty members, particularly Roger Clark. Tom currently serves as a community member of the Institutional Review Board of Butler Hospital as it reviews research on patients to protect them from harm in the research process. He received his Ph.D. in Sociology of Religion and Social Ethics from Boston University.
