Admissions Requirements

The Preparatory Enrollment Program welcomes recent high school grads who reside in Rhode Island and identify as first-generation to apply. PEP students demonstrate a commitment to participating in the summer transition program and first year activities.

PEP Application Process

  • Complete the Common Application for Rhode Island College by February 1st
  • In the Supplemental Section of the Common Application, select PEP from the drop down menu
  • Submit an official high school transcript, 2 letters of recommendation, and your personal essay

Financial Aid Deadlines

Students who are eligible for financial aid must submit the FAFSA between October 1 and February 1.

When completing the FAFSA, if you and your parents (if required) are prompted to do so, we encourage you to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to transfer your IRS Tax Return data directly into your FAFSA. This will make the application process easier and more accurate.

In order to successfully use the IRS Data Retrieval option, you must have:

  • Federal tax return filed with the IRS
  • Valid Social Security number
  • Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID – replaces Federal PIN
  • For parents or students without an FSA ID, you will be prompted to apply for one during the FAFSA application process: https://fsaid.ed.gov/npas/index.htm​
  • The FSA ID will also help you (student or parent) electronically sign the FAFSA
  • Unchanged marital status since December 31 of the prior year
Priority for funds administered by Rhode Island College is given to students who early, as funds are limited. To ensure you are considered for the maximum amount of institutional aid available, you should submit your FAFSA as soon after October 1st as possible.

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or FAFSA on the web at www.fafsa.ed.gov​. Enter our Federal School Code, 003407. You can also request a paper copy by calling 1-800-433-3243.

Selection Procedure

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis up until the February 1 deadline. Prospective students may be asked to attend an interview. Accepted students will receive an acceptance letter by mail in early spring.

Enrollment Procedure

Students must inform PEP of their intent to enroll by May 1.​ All students must also attend an Enrollment Meeting by May 10.
