WHO WE ARE: PEP is an admissions and retention program for first generation college students that provides academic coaching, personalized advising, a summer transition program, a community of peer support, and leadership opportunities.

WE WELCOME recent high school grads who reside in Rhode Island and identify as first-generation to apply. PEP students demonstrate a commitment to participating in the summer transition program and first year advising program.

Mission Statement

The Preparatory Enrollment Program (PEP) supports the academic and personal development of first generation college students beginning in their transition to Rhode Island College and throughout their college experience. The program places a strong emphasis on first year support services to lay the foundation for student success. PEP students engage in a summer transition program, individual advising, and weekly programming in an affirming environment that values the diversity of individual experiences and honors the legacy of first generation students.

Our Legacy

The Preparatory Enrollment Program celebrates a rich history of over 50 years at Rhode Island College of supporting first generation students through their path to graduation. We are a student-centered program characterized by an environment of diversity, collaboration, and community. The program is guided by our appreciation and value for the diverse experiences, viewpoints, and backgrounds of students.
