Resources for Seniors

RIC Upward Bound Endowment Scholarships are a​vailable for Upward Bound Seniors only. More information will be available during the participants’ senior year.


Senior Year TIMEline

Class of 2019​: It is time to implement the lessons that you have learned to successfully meet all the expectations of your senior year. Though this is an exciting time in your lives, it is important for you to remember that the key element for YOUR success is Tracking, Implementing, and Managing an Effective plan.

September
  • Attend local and regional college fairs.
  • Finalize researching the colleges/universities to which you plan to apply.
  • Determine your high school’s guidance department college application/transcript request procedure.
  • Register for the SATs with Upward Bound.
  • Begin filling out college applications and finalize college essays.
  • Identify and secure at least two teachers who will write letters of recommendation.
  • Research state and local scholarships.
October
  • Meet with your guidance counselor to discuss colleges of interest and letter of recommendation.
  • Register for the Upward Bound SAT Prep Workshop, if available.
  • Submit SAT/ACT scores to colleges.
  • Register for the CSS PROFILE, if necessary.
  • Attend Upward Bound sponsored financial aid event.
  • Meet with your Upward Bound counselor to apply for an FSA (Federal Student Aid) ID for you and your    parent/guardian.
  • Apply for FAFSA, which becomes available October 1 with your UB Counselor. 
November
  • Attend the Upward Bound Scholarship Committee information session.
  • Continue applying for potential scholarships.
  • Submit the CSS PROFILE, if applicable.
  • If you submitted your FAFSA, review your Student Aid Report (SAR) for potential follow-up.
  • Attend the TOEFL workshop and exam, if applicable.
  • Finalize and submit your early action application(s), if applicable.
December
  • Continue applying for state and local scholarships.
  • Early action applicants begin receiving responses.
  • If applying regular admission begin submitting applications.
  • Adhere to special admission program deadlines such as, RIC-PEPand URI-TD.
  • If you submitted your FAFSA, review your Student Aid Report (SAR) for potential follow-up.
  • Submit the CSS PROFILE, if you have not done so already.
January
  • Continue to submit college applications.
  • Upward Bound Scholarship application and materials are due.
  • Complete, sign and submit the FAFSA, if you have not done so already and review your Student Aid Report (SAR) for potential follow-up.
  • Submit the CSS PROFILE, if applicable and have not done so already.
  • Finalize institutional financial aid forms, if required by any of your colleges.
  • Check emails regularly for correspondence from colleges and follow up, as needed. ***
February
  • Submit final college applications.
  • Complete, sign and submit the FAFSA, if you have not done so already and review your Student Aid Report (SAR) for potential follow-up.
  • Submit the CSS PROFILE, if applicable and have not done so already.
  • Check emails regularly for correspondence from colleges and follow up, as needed. ***
March
  • Check emails regularly for correspondence from colleges and follow up, as needed. ***
  • Some admission decisions and financial aid award letters arrive this month. Please review them with your Upward Bound counselor and be mindful of response deadlines imposed by each institution.
April
  • You and your parent(s)/guardian(s) should schedule an appointment with your Upward Bound counselor to review financial aid award letters. 
  • If your financial aid needs are not met, you may contact the financial aid office to appeal and/or identify other sources of aid.
  • Confirm all additional financial aid forms required by the school have been submitted.
May
  • Inform your selected college/university of your decision to attend by May 1.
  • Submit your enrollment deposit & housing deposit (if living on-campus).
  • Accept/Decline Financial Aid Awards.
  • Be sure to sign up for an orientation session.
  • Finalize housing plans, and any other requirements by your chosen school.
June and Beyond
  • Submit any other payments by the established deadlines.
  • Complete, sign, and submit the Master Promissory Note (MPN), if you accepted loans as part of your financial aid package.
  • Complete additional steps required by your schools before moving on to campus (ex. Immunization records, class registration, etc.) ​​​
