Certificate of Graduate Studies
Elementary Education - Specialized

This alternative pathway to certification in Elementary Education is a program of 28 credits developed specifically to meet the needs of the Teach for America population. In the first year of their two- year contract, TFA corps members (CMs) take the required courses for certification, and in year two may select to continue in graduate courses to complete their Masters of Education. CGS courses may be applied to M.Ed.  The courses included in the alternative pathway to Secondary Education certification include SPED courses to enhance the CMs’ Secondary/Special Education competence.

Admission Requirements

Graduate admissions application materials are available from the Dean’s Office, Feinstein School of Education and Human Development (107 Horace Mann).  Requirements are:

  1. A completed application form accompanied by a fifty-dollar nonrefundable application fee.
  2. B.A. from a regionally accredited college, with a minimum GPA of 3.0
  3. Acceptance in Rhode Island Teach for America.
  4. Successful completion of TFA Institute.
  5. Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate records.
  6. Professional Goals Essay
  7. Three letters of recommendation that address the academic ability and aptitude of the applicant
  8. Resume
