SUMMER YOUTH CAMPS AT RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE OFFER
SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE IN THE FAMILY
PROVIDENCE, R.I., March 10, 2014 – Rhode Island College’s summer camps offer active and engaging sports training and writing programs, as well as concentrated and stimulating experiences in the performing arts and more from June 23 through Aug. 8.
The Music Institute at Rhode Island College (MIRIC), July 6- 12, is a weeklong honors camp open to wind, percussion and voice students entering ninth through 12th grades. Daily rehearsals are supplemented with classroom offerings, master classes, faculty recitals, recreational and cultural events and guest performances. The week culminates in a public performance on the stage of Sapinsley Hall at RIC. For participants who live on campus during the camp, the cost is $700. The cost is $500 for commuters. The RIC Department of Music, Theatre and Dance sponsors a Summer Performing Arts Camp, Monday through Friday, July 8-25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (The camp begins on a Tuesday.) This acting camp, which incorporates musical theatre and dance, is open to students in grades six through 12. No experience is required for participation. The cost is $530 per participant registering before May 25 and $595 thereafter.
The Rhode Island Writing Project (RIWP) Summer Writing Camp is a two-week program designed to help students develop their writing skills in a lively, interactive atmosphere that promotes creativity and growth. The camp, open to students in grades K through 12, meets Monday through Friday, July 14-25, 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $225 per child. Writing Matters, also a RIWP camp, is a one-week, small workshop for reluctant or struggling young writers who are entering grades three through eight. The Henry Barnard School Summer Explorations Day Camp for children ages 6 to 11 includes activities such as sports, games, arts and crafts, cooking, swimming, talent shows and field trips. This day camp runs June 23-Aug. 8, Monday through Friday, from 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost of the camp is $165 per child per week. Summer Sports Camps at RIC are designed for children ages 8 to 16 and include instruction, competition and fun in baseball/softball, basketball, tennis, swimming, lacrosse, soccer, gymnastics and volleyball. The camp runs Monday through Friday, from June 23-Aug. 8 at a cost of $155 per week per child, with a half-day option available at $130 per week per child.
