Rhode Island College to host Financial Wellness workshops presented by Sovereign Bank

PROVIDENCE, RI – Understanding credit, identity theft and the benefits of home ownership are among topics to be discussed in a series of Financial Wellness presentations at Rhode Island College between Feb. 6 and April 25. The series is presented by Sovereign Bank, through its Sovereign at Work program.

The five-part series, offered in partnership with RIC’s Office of Professional Studies and Continuing Education (PSCE), is free and open to students, faculty and staff, as well as to members of the community. Designed to help ensure personal financial success and security, the Financial Wellness series will help participants build better financial futures for themselves and their families.

The workshop schedule is as follows:

Feb. 6, 12:30 to 2 p.m.           Understanding Credit

Feb. 27, 12:30 to 2 p.m.         What Is Identity Theft and How to Protect Yourself

March 28, 4:30 to 6 p.m.        Benefits of Home Ownership: A Home of Your Own

April 10, 12:30 to 2 p.m.         Exploring Refinance Options and Making the Most of Your Home’s Equity

April 25, 4:30 to 6 p.m.           Budgeting and Savings: Practicing Effective Money Management

All presentations will be held at Rhode Island College in Building 3, Room 015 (East Campus). Registration is required and seating is limited. Register online with Eventbrite (www.eventbrite.com).

Jennifer Giroux, associate vice president for the Professional Studies and Continuing Education Program at Rhode Island College, said she’s pleased to partner with Sovereign Bank to provide this series and other financial literacy programs.

“Students in our workforce development programs benefit greatly from the personal finance and banking programs provided free of charge by Sovereign representatives,” Giroux said. “The information provided and the personal connections they are able to establish with local Sovereign Bank representatives will help our students gain a firm financial foothold that will help them throughout their personal and professional lives.”
