PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rhode Island College has maintained registration with Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. to provide a Master of Professional Accountancy program and a Certificate of Graduate Studies in Financial Planning.

An independent certifying organization, CFP Board owns the CFP® and Certified Financial PlannerTM certification marks, which it awards to individuals who meet its education, examination, experience, ethics and other requirements. Students completing the financial planning program at RIC will have met the education requirement for CFP® Certification Examination administered by CFP Board.

“CFP Board is pleased to have an educational institution of the caliber of Rhode Island College offering a CFP Board Registered Program,” said Richard P. Rojeck, CFP®, chair of CFP Board’s Board of Directors. “As student interest in financial planning as a career continues to grow, we anticipate that RIC’s program will contribute significantly to the number of qualified candidates seeking to attain the CFP® certification, the standard of excellence for competent and ethical financial planning.”

“Both our Master of Professional Accountancy degree program and our C.G.S. in financial planning provide career-enhancing educational opportunities for professionals in the field,” said RIC Associate Professor of Accounting and Computer Information Systems Lisa Church, director of the M.P.Ac. program and the C.G.S. in financial planning. “Graduates of the RIC M.P.Ac. program are well-grounded in all aspects of personal financial planning, including income tax and estate planning, retirement planning, investment allocation and risk management. Like our M.P.Ac. Program, our six-course C.G.S. Program prepares candidates to sit for the Certified Financial Planner exam. The C.G.S. offers a valuable credential, and its 18 credits can be applied toward our M.P.Ac. program.”

Today, CFP Board partners with over 360 programs at more than 225 institutions. CFP Board-Registered Programs are financial planning education programs at the college or university level that meet specific criteria for educating individuals who wish to fulfill the education component for obtaining CFP® certification.

The mission of CFP Board is to benefit the public by granting the CFP® certification and upholding it as the recognized standard of excellence for personal financial planning. CFP Board owns the certification marks CFP®, Certified Financial PlannerTM, CFP® (with plaque design) and CFP® (with flame design) in the U.S., which it awards to individuals who successfully complete initial and ongoing certification requirements. CFP Board currently authorizes more than 70,000 individuals to use these marks in the United States. For more about CFP Board, visit www.CFP.net.
