Rhode Island College has named Edwin Pacheco of Burrillville, R.I., as associate vice president for development and external relations. In this position, Pacheco manages the college’s institution-wide giving programs, including the Annual Fund, corporate and foundation support, capital campaigns and planned giving. He also oversees government affairs for the college.

Pacheco has a strong track record in both nonprofit management and public service. At age 18, Pacheco became the youngest elected official in Rhode Island when he was voted onto the Burrillville School Committee. At 23, he was elected to represent District 47 Burrillville-Glocester in the R.I. Legislature, serving as a state representative for six years. In 2010 Pacheco was unanimously elected chair of the R.I. Democratic Party – the youngest chair in the state’s history – and served in this role through 2013.

A graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Pacheco most recently held the position of executive director for Education in Action, where he was responsible for day-to-day management and operations, as well as annual fundraising efforts and two successful capital campaigns. Previously, he served as director of institutional advancement at Exchange City, where he coordinated strategic planning, marketing and development. He also worked as a project coordinator for Meeting Street.

Established in 1854, Rhode Island College serves approximately 9,000 graduate and undergraduate students through its five schools: the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development, the School of Social Work, the School of Management and the School of Nursing.
