PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Business owners, teachers, students and others are invited to explore the world of advanced manufacturing on Oct. 4 during a Manufacturing Day sponsored by the Rhode Island College Langevin Center for Design, Innovation and Advanced Manufacturing and the Rhode Island STEAM Center. Activities will take place from 11 to 5 p.m. in Whipple Hall, Room 101.

Demonstrations include 3-D printing, laser cutting, robotics programming and a Faro Advanced Measurement System. The featured event is a tour of the Rhode Island Mobile Maker Lab, a traveling laboratory promoting experiential learning developed by International Yacht Restoration School, Polaris MEP, Economic Development Corporation and RIC.

As an educational resource, the Langevin Center for Design, Innovation and Manufacturing focuses on connecting Rhode Island business and industries with students and educators in K-12 and higher education through the implementation of innovative programs using transformative technology. The center works to develop opportunities to meet current and future needs of tomorrow’s workforce by educating and training future STEAM professionals.

“This day highlights advanced manufacturing at postsecondary level and shows how we’re training teacher candidates to prepare their students for high-paying, high-level jobs in Rhode Island and the United States,’’ said RIC Professor of Educational Studies Charlie McLaughlin.

Manufacturing Day is produced by the National Association of Manufacturers.
