PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Two industry leaders will speak at a Green Business Forum at Rhode Island College on Thursday, Nov. 17, to discuss “Sustainable and Impact Investing.” The forum will run from 2-4 p.m., in the Student Union Ballroom, 600 Mt. Pleasant Ave., Providence. This event is free and open to the public.

Presented by Joy Pettirossi-Poland, president of Building Bridges Consulting, and R. Paul Herman, founder and CEO of Human Impact + Profit (HIP) Investor, this forum will focus on impact investing and why this approach drives investment performance and mitigates risk in the 21st century and beyond.

 Participants learn:

  • Why modern portfolio theory has become obsolete.
  • The problem with traditional investing and the new materiality disclosures issued by the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board.
  • The differences between traditional investing and sustainable investing.
  • How your investments impact you personally and how you can align your values with your investments.
  • Socially responsible investments vs. sustainable investments.
  • Intangible value and risk drivers.
  • How sustainable and impact investing can help solve some of our most pressing challenges.
  • Shareholder advocacy and what you can do as an investor, or potential investor, to create a positive impact in the world.
