Rhode Island College Alumni and Community Leaders to be Honored at 2019 Alumni Awards Dinner
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rhode Island College's 2019 Alumni Awards Dinner will be held on Thursday, May 9, in the Donovan Dining Center. A cocktail reception begins at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m.
Alumni awards are presented annually for personal and professional achievement, community service and commitment to Rhode Island College and/or the RIC Alumni Association. Award recipients are:
· Barrington residents Mark Mancini '90, founder and CEO of Ergoteles Capital, and Pamela Mancini '86, secretary for the Rhode Island College Foundation Board of Directors, will receive the John Nazarian '54 Alumnus/Alumna of the Year Award for their outstanding service to the college and to the Alumni Association.
· Providence resident Joyce Stevos '65, M.Ed. '97, Ph.D. '05, retired educational administrator for Providence Public Schools and Rhode Island College adjunct professor for the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development, will receive the Charles B. Willard Professional Achievement Award for her distinguished achievements in the field of education.
· Lincoln resident Vanessa Volz, executive director of Sojourner House and RIC adjunct professor for the Department of Gender and Women's Studies, will receive the Alumni Service Award for her outstanding contribution to the state and to the nation, reflecting the ideal of service to humanity.
· Providence resident Rev. Dante Tavolaro '11, assistant rector at St. Luke's Episcopal Church and chaplain for Rhode Island College, will receive the Young Alumni Award for giving of his time, talent and resources to the college.
· Providence resident Quenby Olmsted Hughes '95, professor of history at Rhode Island College, will receive the Alumni Faculty Award for making unique contributions to the college.
· Cranston resident Sandra Langlois, personnel assistant in the Office of Human Resources at Rhode Island College, will receive the Alumni Staff Award for making unique contributions to the college.
In addition, Alumni Honor Roll Awards will be presented to graduates who have achieved success in their field and whose success demonstrates the value of a RIC degree:
· Representing the Faculty of Arts and Sciences – Psychology: Bel Air, Maryland, resident Patrick Doyle '07, director of dementia care at Brightview Senior Living.
· Representing the Faculty of Arts and Sciences – Biology: Cranston resident Ana Cruz '02, registered polysomnographic technologist at Kent Hospital and author/poet.
· Representing the Faculty of Arts and Sciences – Biology and Chemistry: Spain resident Hector Pardo '05, researcher at the Iberoamerican Cochrane Centre.
· Representing the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development – Elementary Education/Early Childhood: Middletown resident Maureen Pinksaw '80, M.Ed. '87, retired Providence Public Schools teacher.
· Representing the School of Business – Management: Cranston resident Paul Bain '84, director of global supply planning at Hasbro Corporation.
· Representing the School of Nursing: Chepachet resident Joan Walsh '83, M.S.N. '11, DNP '19, neuroscience nursing quality and safety manager at Rhode Island Hospital and adjunct professor for the School of Nursing at Rhode Island College.
· Representing the School of Social Work: Pawtucket resident Doris Norman M.S.W. '12, clinical social worker at Tides Family Services and case manager for the Social Human Service Assistance Program at Rhode Island College.
