Academic B​ackground

Julie Urda received her Ph. D. in Management concentrating in Organizational Behavior in 2006 from INSEAD, an international business school in Fontainebleau, France. She also earned a B.A. in psychology from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Boston University. Dr. Urda came to Rhode Island College (RIC) in 2007 after spending a year as Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology at Brown University. At RIC, she teaches Foundations of Management, Organizational Behavior, Organizational Theory, Management of a Diverse Workforce, and Design, and Business, Government, and Society. During the 2010-2011 academic year, she was an active member of the General Education Task Force (GETF), which developed a new general education program for the College. She has also served as First Year Seminar Coordinator from August 2015 through June 2018. Dr. Urda is the chairs the Honors Program in the Management and Marketing department at RIC. While her dissertation concerned how social goals and emotions influence behavior and motivation, her experiences on the GETF and as FYS Coordinator redirected her research interests to topics in management education.
