PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Rhode Island College Dance Company will host the New Haven-based Elm City Dance Collective and their evening-length dance work titled “Almost Porcelain” on Thursday and Friday, March 27 and 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the Forman Theatre, 600 Mt. Pleasant Ave., Providence. “Almost Porcelain” is choreographed by dance collective co-founder and RIC alumna Kellie Ann Lynch ’03. Admission is $15.

This newest work by the Elm City Dance Collective was inspired by Lynch’s personal struggle with self-perception. Lynch describes this work as “a collage of physical explorations stimulated by such concepts as distortion, avoidance, intimacy and the human desire to be seen.”

“It is a collective attempt to process how we see ourselves and how we see each other,” she said.

Rhode Island College offers a B.A. in dance performance geared toward preparing young artists for life in the professional arena. The major course work places equal emphasis on style and technique, composition and performance, and history and theory. In addition, RIC has a pre-professional repertory company – the RIC Dance Company – that allows students the opportunity to perform with local, regional and national dance artists and companies.

Established in 1854, Rhode Island College serves approximately 9,000 graduate and undergraduate students through its five schools: the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development, the School of Social Work, the School of Management and the School of Nursing.
