2021-2022 Rhode Island College Alumni Association Scholarships

Incoming Freshman Scholarships

All scholarships are for one (1) year and are not automatically renewed.  Application deadline is March 31, 2021.  Applications must be submitted online through this web form. All scholarship awardees will be selected by the Rhode Island College Alumni Association scholarship committee. RIC Freshman Scholarship

The RIC Freshman Scholarship is awarded to a child or grandchild of a RIC graduate who is enrolled at Rhode Island College in the fall as a full-time freshman (12 credit hours or more). Include a typed essay (minimum 250 words) which addresses the following question: How will a Rhode Island College education help you accomplish your goals? Please note that the committee will also consider your involvement with school activities, community service, and employment. Past awards have ranged from $200 - $1,000.

Frank & Agnes Campbell Scholarship

The Frank & Agnes Campbell scholarship was established through the generosity of Francis and Agnes Campbell, both graduates of Rhode Island College, class of 1946.  It is their intention to provide scholarship assistance to incoming freshmen who plan to pursue a career in teaching. Applicants must be entering as full-time freshmen (12 or more credit hours). Preference is given to Rhode Island residents. Applicant must also rank in the top 25% of their high school graduation class and indicate education as their intended curriculum. Include a typed, short essay stating briefly why you aspire to become a teacher.  In the essay, include three references, two from your high school, one from anyone you choose, qualified to support your application (please provide their names, titles and telephone numbers). Past awards have ranged from $750 - $1,500. Please note that the supportive information i.e. involvement with school activities, employment and community service is not required for this particular scholarship.

Currently Attending Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Graduate Student Scholarships

RIC Alumni Scholarship

The RIC Alumni Scholarship is awarded to full-time enrolled undergraduate students; completing freshman, sophomore, or junior year; RIC cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher; award based on GPA and essay.  Include a typed personal statement (minimum 250 words) describing an accomplishment from your time at Rhode Island College and how this scholarship will help you achieve your goals. Please note that the committee will also consider your involvement with school activities, community service, and employment. Past awards have ranged from $250 - $2,000.

RIC Noreen Ackerman ’80 Scholarship

The RIC Noreen Ackerman ’80 Scholarship was established by past Alumni Association president Noreen Ackerman ’80.  The applicant must be a Rhode Island resident and must be accepted as a full-time undergraduate student entering sophomore, junior or senior year.  Awards based on a minimum GPA of 3.0. The successful candidate will be selected based on the above criteria and completion of an essay.  This scholarship was established with the philosophy that once given an opportunity, an individual should find a means of giving back.  Include a typed essay (maximum of 500 words) stating if you were given this scholarship, how will you give back your time and talent to Rhode Island College and your community?   Please note that the committee will also consider your involvement with school activities, community service, and employment. Award is $1,400.

RIC Alumni Graduate Award

The RIC Alumni Graduate Award is awarded to an applicant with a bachelor's degree from Rhode Island College and must be accepted as a full-time graduate student in a RIC Master's degree program (9 credit hours or more).  Graduate assistants are not eligible to apply.  Award based on RIC GPA and essay.  Include a typed essay describing an accomplishment from your time at Rhode Island College and how this scholarship will benefit your career goals. Include in the essay your current graduate program, number of credits earned and date of undergraduate degree from Rhode Island College.  Please note that the committee will also consider your involvement with school activities, community service, and employment.  Past awards have ranged from $500 - $1,500.

RIC Alumni Children Academic Award 

The RIC Alumni Children Academic Award is awarded to a child or grandchild of a RIC graduate, enrolled full-time at the college during the 2021-2022 academic year. Up to three awards are awarded annually and are based on highest RIC GPA of applicants: one to a freshman student returning as a sophomore in the fall of 2021 (approximately 30 credits earned); one to a sophomore returning as a junior in the fall of 2021 (approximately 60 credits earned); one to a junior returning in the fall of 2021 as a senior (approximately 90 credits or more earned).  If there is a tie, the committee will look at credit hours attempted, earned, etc.  Awards are $2000.  Because only three awards are given you are encouraged to also apply for the RIC Alumni Scholarship. The award for a senior (with approximately 90 credits or more earned) can only be given once in a student’s academic career. No essay is required, GPA requirements must be met.
