Tutors

Meet the Writing Center team

The tutors, usually undergraduates, are all students here at RIC. They have spent much time exploring their own writing processes with each other, and they are an ideal audience for writers who wish to talk about their own writing concerns. The benefits of an audience of peers--that is, an audience of students who also need to write papers for classes--cannot be emphasized enough. We believe that writers are less inclined to perceive a peer tutor as a mini-teacher who has all the answers and are more inclined to take an active role in an equal debate about the ideas and merits of their writing. We hope that writers will perceive peer tutors as what they are--peers who can relate to the occasional difficulties of writing, and who can suggest ways of getting through those frustrating moments.
