Office 365 Student Support

OFFICE 365

As Rhode Island College continues to enhance the services provided to our students, we have upgraded our student email system to the Microsoft Office 365 environment. This upgrade has provided a larger inbox and larger attachment size handling.

Information Services is pleased to announce that you should now see even more functionality added to your RIC Office 365 environment! We turned on features that include:

  • Additional storage in a new OneDrive associated with your Office 365 account (1TB).
  • Ability to view and edit documents with Office Web Apps across a broad range of browsers (Internet Explorer, FireFox, Safari)
  • Collaboration capabilities using:
    • Skype for Business for audio and video conferencing and screen sharing
    • Microsoft Office for group document editing in real-time

Office 365 Licensing Agreement

When students graduate, what happens to their Office 365 account?

  • Alumni retain their Exchange account (i.e., email) indefinitely
    • When Students graduate, they will lose the OneDrive for Business and Office apps. However, they will have access to those enhanced license items for 3 semesters (equals 12 months) after the last semester in which they were registered.
    • As soon as a student graduates (complete his/her program) and is not registered for a course in the current semester, they will no longer be able to download Microsoft Office.
  • Non-graduates lose access to all RIC-licensed products, including Exchange/email, OneDrive for Business and Office apps
  • All students may open and retain indefinitely a personal OneDrive account at www.onedrive.com. They will be able to move their files from the OneDrive for Business over to their personal OneDrive or another cloud base storage.

To begin using your RIC account (or to regain access to RIC email, Blackboard, and MyRIC), you will need to set an initial password. Set a new password by visiting passwordstation.ric.edu.
