November Highlights

SPHERE connected with the Providence Teachers Union’s (PTU) Racial Justice Committee for a policy conversation.  We began work on our latest research collaboration with CYCLE and PLEE.  Senator Cano will become the first Latina chair of the Senate Committee on Education.  RIDE unveiled a new strategic plan.  With the election of Biden and Harris, we anticipate changes to federal education policy, particularly the restoration of Obama-era civil rights guidance.

October Highlights

SPHERE joined Parents Leading for Educational Equity (PLEE) for a discussion about state education policy.  RIDE discussed its new online platform for charter school enrollment and potential plans to open new charter schools and expand the number of seats in existing schools.  RIDE also announced the new Educators of Color Committee.  In case you missed it, RI KIDS COUNT released a report on student centered learning and RIPEC released a report on learning experiences during the pandemic.

September Highlights

SPHERE welcomed Dr. Corinne McKamey as the newest faculty fellow.  RIDE updated teacher certification regulations.  The state budget is on hold, but the federal government is making some investments to provide relief to schools.  HousingWorks, CYCLE, and UWRI are hosting some exciting virtual events.
