Living on campus is a great opportunity for students at Rhode Island College. More than just a convenience, it is an important part of social and academic growth of students. Research has shown that students who live on campus do academically better due to the easy access to the campus academic support resources such as computer labs, the OASIS Center, and the library. In addition, living in close proximity to other students who are taking the same classes helps to develop social networks where it is easy to collaborate and organize study groups.
Understanding that college often provides the first experience for students to live away from home, our staff is trained to help make that transition as easy as possible for our students.
Residential Life and Housing offers a living community that strives to meet students’ social needs as well as their academic ones. We support a community based on individual responsibility, where there is an appreciation of individual differences and a respect for individual rights. Our staff offers a wide variety of activities and events. They are designed to offer not only fun, but also opportunities for student interaction, development, and leadership.
Our office provides facilities that are designed to be safe, clean, comfortable, and conducive to student learning. We offer a variety of housing options from traditional residence halls to suite style living environments.
The Office of Residential Life and Housing is located in the Penfield Hall. Our office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the academic year and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. during summer. We can be reached at (401) 456-8240.
Move-In 2021
Move-in for Spring 2021 will occur from January 15-17 in timed blocks. More specific information will be sent to your RIC email.
Looking for a job?
The Office of Residential Life and Housing hires Front Desk Worker in the following halls: Browne, Penfield, Sweet, Thorp, and Weber. Students will Work Study hours are encourages to apply for these positions.
The Front Desk Workers have the general job responsible to greeting individuals as they enter the hall, check the IDs of residents and their guests, sign in guests, answer questions, answer the desk phone, and be a friendly face when people arrive at the hall.
Applications can be returned to the Office of Residential Life and Housing during business hours.
