Residential Life Staff
The Residential Life & Housing staff is available to assist residents through advising, counseling, referrals, programming, conflict mediation, and community development in their hall.
Resident Assistants
Resident Assistants are students who are selected on the basis of their college involvement, intellectual abilities, and leadership skills to be peer mentors to fellow students. The role of the Resident Assistant is to assist students with their personal growth, to help resolve group problems, to coordinate and develop activities and programs, and to enforce residential policies and procedures. Resident Assistants can direct residents to campus and local resources that will help residents with their transition to college.
There are four Resident Assistants in each of the five residence halls and eight in the Penfield Hall.
There is an RA on-duty from 7:00pm to 7:00am on weekday and 24 hours on weekends. When on-duty, the RA makes rounds through the hall to ensure that things are running smoothly.

Area Coordinators & Hall Directors
Resident Assistants are supervised by a Professional Hall staff member (Area Coordinators and Hall Directors). Area Coordinator and Hall Directors have the overall responsibility of supervising the residence halls, including the areas of judicial, programming, maintenance, front desk, and security. They encourage and develop educational and social goals for the residents and thus provide an environment that is conducive to growth. The Professional Hall staff members also assist with the programs and operations of the Office of Residential Life & Housing.
The Professional Hall staff members live-in the residence halls and can be reached in the Office of Residential Life & Housing (401-456-8240) during the business day. There is a Professional Staff person on-call for the residence hall area 24 hours a day for emergency and crisis management.
Roommate Agreement
The transition to college can be a stressful time for students. One of the biggest transitions can be learning to live with a new person. Residential Life and Housing department recommends sitting down with your future roommate before moving-in to have an open dialogue about mutual respect and boundaries. If you and your roommate are unable to sit down before moving-in, please find a meeting time within the first two weeks to discuss rules for the room. We have provided two sample of a roommate agreement to help guide the conversation.
