Summer 2021 Orientation

The Office of New Student Programs is excited to provide an Online New Student Orientation experience for Summer 2021. To participate in the orientation program, students must first register for an orientation session. Information about how to register can be found below.

New Student Orientation combines live orientation sessions with online orientation modules to welcome students to our campus, introduce you to campus resources, assist you with registering for classes and more. During your virtual experience you will also meet with an advisor in your major and your Orientation Leader who are both here to assist you during your transitions to RIC.

Online Orientation for Summer 2021 will combine Synchronous (live at a specific time) and Asynchronous (on your own time) elements. When registering for orientation you will see two dates in each session, these are the Opening and Closing (Synchronous) dates for Orientation. Please make sure you are available for both times when signing up for a session. All sessions will be held virtually via ZOOM. More information about how Orientation will take place will be sent to your RIC email address prior to your first session.

New Student Orientation Registration will open on May 1st. New Student Orientation will begin in June. The following dates will be available for students to register for. Please follow the instructions below to select a session.

Welcome to Rhode Island College!

Congratulations on your acceptance to Rhode Island College! Orientation is a comprehensive program that assists students in making their transition to RIC comfortable and enjoyable. During our program, students will participate in an interactive virtual programs that consists of learning about campus resources, engaging in conversations with faculty, learning about student organizations and clubs, virtually meeting new classmates through online activities, and creating a class schedule.  

Orientation is a mandatory for all first-year and transfer students. Orientation will be held online in a self-paced format for Spring 2021. More information regarding how to access will be sent out before orientation goes live on December 1.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have credits so am I a first-year student?  

Students are considered first-year if they have 0-24 credits coming into Rhode Island College.

Do I have to attend Orientation?  

Yes, all first-year students are required to attend orientation.

I do not see a “drop down” to choose a session to register.

When you are on the orientation registration page click on the magnifying glass icon to view all available orientation sessions. Please refer to the Step-by-step guide found at the top of this page for instructions on how to register.

What if I didn’t get an email confirmation?   

Once you register for an orientation session, an email confirmation will be sent to your personal email address you put on your application to Rhode Island College. If you did not receive an email confirmation, please contact the Office of New Student Programs at 401-456-8083 or email: orientation@ric.edu. To change the personal email address on file please login to MyRIC > Personal Contact Info > Email Addresses > You will be able to change you “Home” email address here.

Can I bring guests to Orientation?

During Orientation Registration you will be asked to include information for up to 2 guests. This information will be used to share online Family Orientation information during the month of June. There is no additional cost associated with Online Family Orientation.

Does orientation cost anything?  

No payment is required at this time. The one time New Student Fee that covers all your costs for orientation and programs in your first year, will be included in your first bill.  

When and how do I access orientation?

Online Orientation Registration opens May 1st. Information regarding how to access Online Orientation will be sent to your RIC e-mail address.

I'm having problems with my password!  

Before you can log into your MyRIC or Office 365 email accounts you need to set up your password at the RIC Password Station.   

  • Enter your username as described above when asked for User ID
  • Choose "Forgot Password"
  • Follow the onscreen prompts

Please note that it will take up to 20 minutes for this change to take effect. To further enhance security for students, the system will require strong passwords (i.e., passwords containing 10-14 characters, no names or repeating characters and at least one of each of the following: upper case, lower case, number, and a special character).

Will I schedule my classes at orientation?  

Yes, during Orientation new students will get to meet virtually with faculty or professional advisors who will assist them in building a schedule. Students will then be able to finalize and enroll in these courses.

What if I don’t have access to internet or a computer to participate in Online Orientation?  

Please contact New Student Programs at orientation@ric.edu or 401-456-8083. There are resources available for students, and we are happy assist you in this process.

Our goal is to prepare each student for a successful transition into the RIC community. The program is designed for new transfer, readmitted, and second bachelor degree students. During your session you will have the opportunity to meet virtually with an academic advisor who will work with you in reviewing the evaluation of your credits and creating a class schedule. In addition to meeting faculty members and staff, our program helps you to connect with other #NewAnchors within the community.

Am I a transfer student?

You are considered a transfer student if you have obtained 24 or more credits coming into Rhode Island College.​

Do I have to attend? 

All transfer students are required to attend orientation to gain valuable information about our campus and register for classes. If you are being re-admitted to the college, or obtaining a Second Bachelors Degree please reach out to the office of New Student Programs to see if attendance is required.

LIVE Family Sessions

In addition to the Blackboard Online Orientation for students, and the information videos for families, we are excited to offer Live Family Sessions. Join New Student Programs and all of our campus partners for one of these live webinars during the month of June. These sessions are designed to welcome new students and their families to RIC, have all of your questions answered by staff, faculty, and students, and provide fun ways to engage such as TRIVIA night with other students new to RIC!

Do I have to attend?  

Orientation Registration your student will provide guest information including an email address for up to 2 family members. We will use this email address to contact you with information regarding Online Family Orientation, include how to access virtual events and programs. More information will be sent out in early December.

Who will I meet at Family Orientation?  

Staff members and current students, will be available to answer questions you have about the student experience or Rhode Island College community.  

What do I do at family orientation?  

Through conversations with our dynamic staff, and current students, family members will learn more about the resources and services available for both students and themselves.
