Rhode Island College has been named a College of Distinction for the 2013-2014 academic year, a designation that honors excellence in student-focused higher education.

Colleges of Distinction is a web-based guide of colleges and universities designed for high school juniors and seniors that annually profiles schools that excel in four distinctions: engaged students, great teaching, vibrant communities and successful outcomes.

Colleges and universities are nominated for distinction by high school counselors and then are evaluated using qualitative and quantitative research. The website guide focuses on schools that are nationally recognized and highly recommended by professionals in the field of education.

“We focus on colleges that are the best places to learn, grow and succeed,” said Tyson Schritter, executive editor of Colleges of Distinction. “Schools designated as ‘Colleges of Distinction’ create well-rounded graduates and are the very best in the country.”

The website includes college profiles, search tools, tips from high school guidance counselors and essays from college students, presidents and other members of campus communities.
