Tricia Kammerer serves as Assistant Professor in a joint appointment in the Department of Music, Theater and Dance and the Department of Educational Studies. As the Undergraduate Music Education Coordinator, she advises undergraduate music education majors on their plan of study and coordinates clinical placements with music teachers throughout the region. She teaches Introduction to Music Education, General Music Practicum in Music Education, Seminar for Student Teachers, and supervises student teachers at their elementary general music clinical placements. She is also the faculty advisor for Rhode Island College Collegiate NAfME (National Association for Music Education) and serves on the Milestones Committee for the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development. Tricia is the President of the Boston Area Kodály Educators (BAKE), a member of BAKE's Committee on Justice and Equity, and is the Co-Chair of the Rhode Island Music Educators Association Advocacy Task Force.
She taught K-6 general music and 5th and 6th grade chorus for 10 years in the Warwick, RI Public Schools, most recently at Oakland Beach Elementary, where she specialized in teaching music to students with special needs, and working with visual art, theatre, and classroom teachers on arts integration projects. She served as a cooperating teacher with the University of Rhode Island’s music education program, and was a musicianship instructor for the Kodály Summer Certificate Program at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. She is a member of the chorus at the First Unitarian Church of Providence
Tricia is a graduate of Cornell University and Rhode Island College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in music education. She received a two-year diploma in music pedagogy from the Zoltan Kodály International Institute of Music Education in Kecskemét, Hungary and a master’s degree in music education with Kodály emphasis from Holy Names University in Oakland, CA.
