Dr. Blankenship earned her Ph.D. at the University of Texas at Austin in the fall of 2010 in Social Studies Education. Prior to her move to higher education, Dr. Blankenship taught history and social studies at the secondary level for seventeen years. She joined the faculty of Rhode Island College in the fall of 2012 where she currently teaches in the Departments of Educational Studies and History.

Her current research projects include examining the development of citizenship curricula during World War II and the early Cold War era; developing an online, place-based World War II curriculum utilizing oral histories and personal archives of local veterans, and investigating the uses of place-based curricula in social studies teacher education and secondary social studies classrooms. She also works with the Providence Independence Trail as educational specialist assisting in the development of educational tours and curricula.

Research Interests

Dr. Blankenship's research interests include the integration of technology into social studies classrooms, place-based teacher education, high stakes testing, and how social studies was taught during World War II and the Cold War.
