Welcome Rhode Island College Students!

August 27, 2020

Dear RIC Students,

I want to welcome you all to the 2020-21 academic year. Whether you are a new student experiencing Rhode Island College for the first time or a returning student already familiar with all that our college has to offer, I want to thank you for being a part of our community.

Our dedicated team of faculty and staff has been working hard all summer to make sure that the coming year is an engaging and successful educational experience for all of you. We know that this year will be unlike any other, but we are confident that you will receive the same high-quality academic instruction and extraordinary value for which Rhode Island College is known.

Information & Resources

As our academic year begins, we want to inform you about the many student support services and resources available to you at RIC, whether you are taking classes in-person or online. The Key Contacts page on our website provides a good overview of what’s available to you and how to access these resources.

I also encourage you to spend some time reviewing our Reopening Plan web page. There you will find valuable information regarding topics like Academics, Student Experience and Health and Safety, as well as answers to many Frequently Asked Questions. If you have any questions that are not answered here, please feel free to send us an email at stayinformed@ric.edu.

Greetings from Our Team

As you will soon discover, I am far from alone in my excitement to welcome you back. Many of our faculty and staff have taken the time to offer greetings and well wishes to all of you. Please take a moment to watch their video here.

Wellness Checks

As an added safety precaution to prevent the spread of COVID-19 on campus, we will be using the Rave Guardian app to conduct wellness checks. If you have in-person classes this semester, are a residential student, have an on-campus job or plan to report to campus in-person for any other reason, you will need to download this app and complete a wellness check.

Directions for Downloading the Rave Guardian App:

1. Update or verify your mobile number in MyRIC: login to MyRIC and click on the “Mobile Number for RICAlert” link found in the Student or Staff/Admin tab.
2. Download the App: Please download and install the Rave Guardian mobile app for your respective device. Once downloaded and installed, please log in with your mobile phone number or RIC Microsoft 365 email address (user_1234@email.ric.edu).

Non-smartphone users may complete the survey by logging into your RIC email account on any device.

All students enrolled in the fall semester will receive a reminder to complete a wellness check beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, August 31 and each weekday thereafter. You will receive notifications to complete the wellness check by either Rave Guardian app alert or an email to your RIC email address.

You may choose either method each day to complete the survey, which will contain questions related to symptoms of COVID-19 and other risk factors. After completing the survey each day, you will be advised about your eligibility to visit any Rhode Island College facility.

#RICSpirit

Finally, I want to mention that today, like every Thursday, is #RICSpirit Day. It’s a day when we all try to wear our school colors and RIC apparel and reflect on what it means to be a part of our community. Even though we can’t all be together on campus as we would like, I believe that this spirit of pride, togetherness and common purpose unites us across our respective distances. I encourage you to follow us on social media (@rhodeislandcollege on Facebook and Instagram, @RICNews on Twitter) to see the many ways we share and celebrate that spirit throughout the year.

Once again, I want to thank you and welcome you to a new year at Rhode Island College. Your success and your experience are the most important things to me as president. I wish you all the best in the months to come and I look forward to seeing all that you accomplish.

Yours in education,

Frank D. Sánchez
President
