Biology Programs

Biology majors at Rhode Island College complete a stimulating and challenging program including a minimum of eight biology courses, four chemistry courses, two physics courses, and a biology senior seminar. The program provides students with a basic understanding of the scope of the biological sciences, first hand experience with a range of laboratory techniques, development of written and oral communication skills, as well as opportunities for focused research experiences. Our graduates have been highly successful in a wide range of career paths such as: medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, optometry, physical therapy, pharmacy, public health, education, medical research, biotechnology, environmental science, and industrial research.

Aside from a Bachelor of Science in Biology, we also offer a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education with a major in Biology for those students planning to teach biology at the secondary school level- grades seven through twelve. Students may also choose to have Biology as a minor.

Students must consult with their assigned advisor before they will be able to register for courses. This program also has specific admission and retention requirements, which may be obtained from the advisor.
