Schedule a Field Trip
Students will have an enriching hands on experience at the hives alongside Jim Murphy as he educates all age groups about our bees at Rhode Island College. Field trips can be customized in subject and time frame to include visits to the Bee Education Center, the RIC greenhouse, and campus garden. Each group will learn a combination of all the topics at age appropriate sessions, with special attention for the following:
Preschool - 3rd Grades
Types of bees, roles of each bee in the hive, beekeeping tools, and how bees help Earth
4th - 8th Grades
Bees role as pollinators, how pheromones are used for communication, and the waggle dance
9th - 12th Grades
Neonicotinoids and their effects on hives and agriculture, pollination and its uses in our culture
Each field trip should also have a rain date scheduled, as field trips are weather permitting.
