ALEX AND ANI Hall​

ALEX AND ANI Hall, Rhode Island College’s newly renovated and expanded 52,600-square-foot art center, includes new state-of-the art studios, classrooms, offices, computer labs, presentation areas and outdoor work courts.

The extensive renovation of the college’s art facility includes the replacement of much of the original 1958 building with a new structure designed specifically for studio art and art education. The new façade includes a striking second floor wrapped in copper. Special features include the following:

  • Ceramics – studio space for introductory and advanced ceramics classes; six electric kilns and covered outdoor work space with four large new exterior kilns
  • Sculpture – separate studios for wood and metals sculpture; covered outdoor work court for metals foundry work
  • Jewelry/Metals – studios for introductory, advanced and senior jewelry-making; new kilns and electro-forming equipment
  • Photography – digital production studio, seminar room and black-and-white darkroom suite
  • Art History – new lecture hall, seminar room and visual resource room
  • Art Education – two large classrooms dedicated to the art education program
  • Foundations – five studios for teaching drawing, two-dimensional design and three-dimensional design
  • Painting – large studios for introductory and advanced painting classes
  • Printmaking - facilities for traditional relief, intaglio and lithographic printmaking processes
  • Graphic Design/Media Studies ­ One Seminar/Prototype Building Room and one Computer Lab/Classroom with Digital Projection, large-screen iMacs, Color Laser Printer, Inkjet Printers, Professional Software, and Tools of the Trade.
  • Digital Media/Media Studies ­ One Computer Lab/Classroom with Digital Projection, large-screen iMacs, 3-D Printer, Inkjet Printers, and 3-D Animation/Modeling and Digital Video software, and Green Screen System.
  • Lounge and Display Spaces – two large lounge spaces that allow for exhibition and critique; new student gallery​​
